Holiday in backpacker mode is hard and easy at the same time. Cheaper is always but sometimes I found a worrible things like a dirty toilet, a noisy neighbors and others. Have you ever worried to be backpacker as a moslem? where to get the Ablution / 'Wudhu' (Ablution is the order before moslem prays) ? even where to get the prayer place??

In Indonesia or Malaysia, which is dominated by moslems, that kind of things is easy to do. You can just found Musholla (Islamic Prayer Room) easily in shopping mall or even a Mosque in every street.

How about Singapore?

As you know, Singapore is really a great place for backpacker. It has so many things to do and to visit. You will never bored for having holiday in Singapore because it always have something new!

Singapore also clean and safe!! No need to worry if you are going backpacker by yourself.

But back to the issues, Singapore must be different with Indonesia and Malaysia. You must have more effort as moslem here. I have already visit Singapore for 10 times in a year, and the more I visit, the more I really know what to do and don't here. I just found a moslem friendly backpacker hostel in Singapore last week.

The Pod is a backpacker hostel which is highly recommend for a moslem backpacker. Located in Kampong Glam area, this hostel would not disappoint you because it's only 5 minutes walk to Sultan Mosque and so close with Bus Stop and MRT Station.

Here some tips if you stay there, you can pray at dawn (Solat Subuh) at the mosque (on 6 AM Singapore Time) then after that you can explore Kampong Glam in morning time, then back to the hostel for having breakfast (Fyi, the breakfast is really tasty and Insya Allah Hallal because it just a combination of egg, bread, jam, apple and cereal), then after breakfast you can start exploring Singapore!

There is another tips, when you get back from exploring and The Sultan Mosque already closed, you can just pray at your room. Even it is a backpacker hostel and the room is small, the corridor room and the capsule is according to design standard (I know because I am an architect too) so you will not feel hard to make a move. There is a changing area in every room with a curtain so you can just pray inside as long as it's not bothering others (you can permit to others first, i'm certain they would appreciate you). But if you think that is really impossible, you can pray at your capsule in sit mode (Musafir -someone which is on the way- is allowed to pray like that in this condition), because the capsule is quite wide and comfy.

The Capsule Design (Pict : 1001placestogo)

Don't worry if you feel uneasy with a mixed dormitory. In every capsule, it has a solid curtain which is not transparrant even you turn on the capsule light. So if you wear a hijab, you can sleep by removing your hijab.

Another good things are this hostel surrounded by hallal restaurants. There are Kampong Glam Café, Turkish Restaurant, Minang Restaurant, Ramen Stall (Halal Ramen and Sushi), and so many more.

and beside of the moslem topic, this hostel is really clean, comfortable, have a nice recepsionist, easy to check in and check out because they have a self check in and out counter, strategic, have a nice design, have a nice breakfast, but a little bit pricey because they have so many good things! I will back to stay there again!
